Caf Confederation Cup playoff fixture
First leg 7–9 April in Kampala
KCCA– Al-Masry (Egypt)
Second leg 14–16
KCCA’s continue their continental dream of at least playing in the Caf Confederation Cup group stage but they will have to contend with Egyptian opposition to achieve that.
After stretching African champions Mamelodi Sundowns to crash out of the Champions League 3-2 on aggregate, Al-Masry are their reward in the lower Cup competition.
But the Ugandan side’s manager, Mike Mutebi, is confident about KCCA’s chances after drawing the Egyptian outfit in the playoff round of the Caf Confederation Cup on Tuesday.
“We can call it a favourable draw although playing against Egyptian sides they are always dangerous,” said Mutebi.
But I think we have built enough momentum after playing those four Champions League matches.
“I think if the players continue with that momentum and the focus and belief, we shall be able to negotiate them.
Mutebi added: “The Egyptians clubs of old used to play with a lot of authority they are not that kind anymore.”
The winner of this tie will earn a spot in the group stages where each of the 16 teams stands a chance to win at least Shs963m.
Al Masry are currently fourth in the Egyptian league. Former Uganda Cranes star Jackson Mayanja and current national team captain Geoffrey Massa played for Al-Masry.
