Ugandan champions KCCA have been drawn against two of the best African clubs in the Caf Champions League group stage draws conducted in Cairo on Wednesday night.

Eight time winners Al Ahly of Egypt and two time champions Esperance of Tunisia are the teams Uganda Premier League (UPL) kings will have to contend with in pursuit of their quarterfinals dream.

KCCA coach Mike Mutebi attented the draws in Egypt and looking forward to the challenge.

“We are motivated because we are going to face the big boys on the continent,” he said.

This is KCCA’s first Champions League group stage appearance alongside Botswana’s Township Rollers.

In contrast, on top of eight Champions League titles, the most by any African club, Al Ahly are also one time Caf Confederation Cup winners and a record six Caf Super Cup kings.

They also finished third at a Fifa Club World Cup.

KCCA will, however, be encouraged by some big results against North African opposition last year.

They beat at home El Masry (Egypt), Fus Rabat (Morocco) and Club Africain (Tunisia).

This was a big break from the past when fixtures against North Africans were considered defeats even before taking off.
