KCCA 1-0 Vipers
For the third time in five years, KCCA are the winners of the FUFA Super Cup.
The Kasasiro edged Uganda Cup winners Vipers, who were also the Cup holders 1-0 at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku on Sunday.
The 2016/17 Azam Uganda Premier League curtain raiser was decided by a 63rd minute goal from veteran Geoffrey Sserunkuma who rejoined the Yellows from Lweza in the window.
KCCA were better the side in the first half pinning Vipers in their own half but failed to make possession count despite creating some scoring chances.
Vincent Kayizzi headed over the bar from Brian Majwega corner kick while Muzamiru Mutyaba saw his effort hit the cross bar after good work by Paul Mucureezi.
Before end of the half, the Venoms also missed a seater after Musa Esenu low cross from the left went begging with Benjamin Ochan beaten.
In the second half, it was an even game until the 63rd minute when Sserunkuma rose highest to meet Joseph Ochaya pinpoint cross and headed home to send the few watching KCCA fans into frenzy.
The goal awakened Abdallah Mubiru’s side and the search for an equaliser started.
First, Wadri hesitated to shoot when played on by Semujju before Brian Kakaire heavy first touch denied him an opportunity to test Ochan.
The best opportunity for the Kitende side fell to new signing Ibrahim Kayiwa who beat an offside trap to find a well weighed Semujju pass but his chipped effort over the advancing Ochan kissed the bar.
The final whistle sent KCCA into jubilation as they lifted yet another trophy.
