Express 1-2 KCCA
KCCA came from behind to edge crosstown rivals Express 2-1 at Wankulukuku on Tuesday.
Allan Okello and Jackson Nunda scored for manager Mike Mutebi’s side while Ayub Kisalita got Express’ eventual consolation goal from a penalty spot.
The win was a much needed response as the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) champions were recovering from a 3-2 defeat at Vipers.
Victory also kept KCCA’s title defence on track. They are second on 51 points, four behind leaders Vipers.
The match, which was punctuated by stone pelting by home fans, and teargas being sprayed at the final whistle to protect KCCA players, further dimmed Express’chances of surviving relegation.
Express remain level with fellow basement side, Proline, on 26 points with four matches left to save their season.
The Red Eagles took the lead when Kisalita sent Thomas Ikara the wrong way from the penalty spot after KCCA defender Filbert Obenchan had fouled Isaac Kisujju on 21 minutes.
But Okello levelled for KCCA 10 minutes later with an easy tap-in after Express goalkeeper Godwin Buule failed to tame a cross from the right wing.
Silky midfielder Jackson Nunda then calmly controlled a pass from Obenchan before coolly finishing to put KCCA 2-1 lead on 43 minutes.
“We are still on (title charge) it until the last game.,” KCCA manager Mutebi, whose team travel Wednesday morning to Botswana for a Champions League tie against Township Rollers, said.
