Stanbic Uganda Cup
Quarter Final 1, Saturday
Kitara vs. KCCA FC – Boma Play ground, Hoima
Uganda Cup and reigning league champions KCCA find themselves on collision course with the national Under-20 side over the availability of two key players.
Hippos captain Julius Poloto and Allan Okello are the players in the equation.
The two KCCA players were expected to lead the national under-20 team’s charge in Saturday’s 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Qualifier first round return leg against their South Sudan counterparts.
But going by KCCA manager Mike Mutebi’s assertions, the youthful pair will be playing for the club in Saturday’s Stanbic Uganda Cup quarterfinal game away to Hoima-based Big League side Kitara.
“If we had options then we would have no problem,” Mutebi said in Thursday’s pre-match meeting.
“Mutyaba (Muzamir) is injured, Nunda (Jackson) is just returning from injury and Sadam Juma is unavailable, so those are dependable now and I can’t release them.”
Mutebi added: “But don’t create situations that we are fighting Fufa,” he cautioned.
“No, because they all know this technically that we have to field these players. It is unfortunate the fixture was released that way.
“If they play and we lose we have no problem but if we lose without them then we’ll put the blame on someone else,” he added.
The Hippos carry a 5-1 first leg advantage to South Sudan, where they are favourites to progress to the next round.
Poloto captained the side in the first leg in which Okello played a starring by role, setting up two goals and scoring a cracker of his own.
