Brian Nkuubi struck a double as Vipers registered a 3-0 victory over Proline at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende, in the first ever Azam Uganda Premier League match at the venue.
Nkuubi put the hosts in the lead after fourteen minutes and sealed the maximum points with the other in the 58th minute.
In between, veteran Mike Sserumaga had doubled the hosts’ lead after getting a good through ball from Erisa Ssekisambu.
The win lifts the two-time champions to 3rd on the log with 35 points, 7 adrift of SC Villa who lead the log but the Jogoos have played a game more.
Proline, coached by Mujib Kasule drop to 8th with 27 points.
At Kavumba, KCCA were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Soana in an entertaining tie to miss a chance to reclaim top spot.
Geoffrey Sserunkuma put the visitors, now second on the table with 42 points in the lead after 33 minutes but Osman Wejuli equalised in the first minute of additional time in the first half.
There was no change to the score line at the final whistle although it could have been worse for the visitors as the hosts, coached by Alex Isabirye missed two good chances in the second period.
KCCA are now two points behind SC Villa who have played three more games while Soana are 7th with 27 points.
Elsewhere, Ibrahim Saddam Juma and Joseph Semujju scored a goal apiece in the first half to earn Express a deserved 2-0 win over hosts Bright Stars at Matugga.
Ssemujju, on loan from Vipers scored first in the 36th minute before Saddam added the other with a minute to the break.
The win, third in succession for Matia Lule’s side puts them 5th on the table with 33 points, same as 4th placed URA who boost of a better goal difference.
Action in the league continues over the weekend with over seven fixtures.
