Wednesday SUPL result
KCCA 1-0 Mbarara City
Filbert Obenchan scored the game’s only goal as KCCA kicked off their second round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) with a 1-0 victory over visiting Mbarara City at Lugogo on Wednesday.
The victory, KCCA’s 11th in 16 matches, keeps them in second place but brings them to within just a point of leaders Vipers, who are at 36.
Vipers do not play their impending game until Friday when they host Kyetume.
Manager Mike Mutebi’s men got the winner through Obenchan on 50 minutes in a closely contested affair and held off Mbarara attempts for a leveler to the end.
Defeat for Mbarara, their seventh in 16 matches, keeps them in eighth place on 19 points.
This was the first time KCCA, who lost the reverse first round fixture 2-1, were beating Mbarara.
KCCA played this match without their two most dependable players in wing-back Mustafa Kizza and forward Allan Okello, who are said to be engrossed in protracted transfer talks, although their coach, Mutebi announced them ill. The league continues on Friday.
