KCCA 6-1 Gaddafi
KCCA recovered from their 2-1 defeat to Busoga United in their last outing to pummel visiting Gaddafi 6-1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Friday.
Braces from Shaban Muhammad and Usama Arafat, plus a goal each from Etienne Katenga and Dominic Ayella were enough to hand coach Abdallah Mubiru his debut home win since he was named the new manager on November 13.
Sharif Ssengendo scored the visitors’ consolation in this StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter.
Interestingly, today’s six goals moved KCCA to 14, only second in scoring behind leaders BUL, who have netted one more.
But it is their defence that has been KCCA’s undoing. The 13-time league winners have conceded a massive 15 times, and Friday only served to reduce their minus goal difference to -1.
KCCA currently lie third from bottom with only seven points from nine matches, while Gaddafi are four places above in 10th with as many points from nine games.
The hosts went ahead in the 17th minute when Katenga latched onto Carlos Da silva Gui’s ball at the half way line, racing into the penalty box, opening his body and brilliantly curling the ball into the top left corner of Andrew Ssekandi in Gaddafi’s goal.
Shaban’s first and KCCA’s second arrived on 22 minutes, Katenga laying on an easy ball to Mustafa Kizza, who put in a brilliant cross for the former to head home.
His second was identical to his first, Kizza releasing Gui on the left, and the midfielder’s cut-back expertly controlled by Shaban and thumped in within seconds for 3-0 on 24 minutes.
Katenga was also involved in KCCA’s fourth. The striker drove forward but his shot was blocked, only for the ball to fall into youngster Usama’s path. Usama’s return shot was emphatic. 4-0 on 32 minutes.
Usama then completed his brace seven minutes later after yet another move involving impressive Gui and Katenga, the two combining for a cross that Usama sent home off a deflection from the Gaddafi goalkeeper, Ssekandi. Five nil at half time!
Gaddafi did have their moment of magic, too, in the 61st minute. KCCA ceded possession in the middle of the park, which Amos Kirya seized and advanced in the penalty area.
Two KCCA players were sold into stopping him but Kirya instead passed to Ssengendo, just outside the 18-yard area.
Ssengendo prepared to take a shot with his left and two KCCA players bought the dummy, sliding into a non-existent shot.
The Gaddafi jersey 5 instead changed direction and had a good sight at Anthony Emojong in the KCCA goal.
Emajong had no chance at the resultant bullet that came from Ssengendo’s right foot.
But KCCA still had the last laugh, Ayella capitalising on Gaddafi’s catalogue of errors arising from building from the back to smuggle home a loose ball for 6-1.
KCCA next travel to Mbarara City to face the hosts next Wednesday while Gaddafi welcome the UPDF in the battle of the forces the following day.
