Bright Stars 1-2 KCCA
URA 0-0 Police
JMC Hippos 0-1 The Saints
Lweza 0-0 Onduparaka
KCCA opened up a six point gap at the summit of the Azam Uganda Premier League thanks to a hard fought 2-1 win over Bright Stars at Mwerwere.
Geoffrey Sserunkuma scored inside the first minute to give the visitors the lead with a header as Ronald Musana bagged an assist before Derrick Nsibambi doubled the lead nine minutes later.
There was not much to write about the first half thereafter but the hosts improved and by the time the rains poured towards the first half whistle, they were in charge.
It took an unusual lengthy break during the half time as the downpour continued and the game was nearly stopped.
But the resumption of the second half saw a different Bright Stars side as they pressed for at least a goal and it came in the 79th minute when Kokas Opejo beat Benjamin Ochan from the free kick.
Opejo had earlier forced match winning saves from the KCCA goalie who was arguably man of the match.
Mike Mutebi’s side now break away at the top with 25 points, six better than second placed Vipers who have a game in hand.
At Kakindu, Rogers Aloro scored in the 49th minute to hand visiting The Saints a crucial 1-0 victory as the army side returned to winning ways.
Moses Basena’s side move to 9th on the log on 14 points while JMC Hippos remain rooted at the base with just three points.
Elsewhere, Lweza played to a barren stalemate with Onduparaka at Namboole and the same score line was registered at Mehta Grounds Lugazi where URA faced off with coach less Police.
Action in the league resumes on Friday and Saturday with a total of four games on card.
