AZAM UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE

TUESDAY RESULTS

KCCA 2-1 Bright Stars

Vipers 0-0 Sadolin

Bul 1-2 URA

KCCA ended a two-game winless pattern when they beat Bright Stars 2-1 in an Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) match played at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday.

League top scorer Geoffrey Sserunkuma converted from the penalty spot his 15th of the campaign while Innocent Asiimwe was unlucky to net the winner for KCCA. Victor Aweko had earlier levelled for Bright Stars.

The victory moved KCCA to 46 points, one behind leaders SC Villa, who have played two games more.

It was also a timely boost for manager Mike Mutebi’s side as they head into the first leg of the Caf Confederation Cup clash against Egyptian side Al-Masry this Saturday at Lugogo.

Following back-to-back stalemates against Soana and Police, KCCA knew the encounter against Bright Stars was a must-win affair.

The hosts went ahead after winger Brian Majwega won a penalty for Sserunkuma to bury it for KCCA’s 12th minute opener and the striker’s 15th.

The lead, however, didn’t last long, Aweko catching the home side’s defence napping and coolly controlling the ball on the chest before drawing the tie level on 29 minutes.

KCCA eventually got the winner after recess, Sserunkuuma chesting down for Paul Mucureezi, who committed Asiimwe into a 52nd minute own goal and KCCA’s winner.

At Kakindu in Jinja, URA continued their resurgence under coach Ibrahim Kirya, beating Bul 2-1 for a fifth straight win.

The tax collectors remain third after accumulating 39 points thanks to Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza’s brace at Bul.

Elsewhere, a wasteful Vipers lost further ground on the top two, drawing goalless with Sadolin at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende to stay fourth on 36 points.
