Kimera keeps KCCA out

Wednesday Result

KCCA 0-0 Mbarara City

Paul Mucureezi returned to KCCA for the first time since joining Mbarara City on Wednesday but it was goalkeeper Ali Kimera who stood out as the visitors ground out a vital point in the goalless draw at Lugogo.

Mbarara were  the better team in the first half, Mucureezi and Karim Ndugwa both drawing fine saves from KCCA goalkeeper Charles Lukwago.

KCCA wing-back Mustafa Kizza also connected well with his weaker right foot the other end but Kimera tipped over to start what was one of the best goalkeeping displays this season.

The hosts returned from the break more determined Hillary Mukundane, solid in defence and the blameless Kimera were on hand to stop everything their way.

When Mukundane did not intercept or thwart KCCA advances, Kimera was right in their way. Substitutes Allan Kyambadde and Musa Esenu, Allan Okello, Patrick Kaddu and Nicholas Kasozi among others all came at Kimera but the goalkeeper stood tall.

The visitors, too, had their chances. They hit the upright, and Ndugwa missed a sitter from Mucureezi’s free kick before the striker forced a fine save from Lukwago at near-post.

KCCA then had Hassan Jurua sent off for a second bookable offence after he brought down a full-flight Mucureezi en route to goal in added time.

With with the clock ticking on the added six minutes, Mucureezi had a chance to punish his former employers from the resultant free-kick but an impressive Lukwago acrobatically tipped the ball over for the two teams to settle for a point each.

KCCA remain second on 11 points, two behind Vipers, who they face on Saturday, while Mbarara drop one to eighth on seven points.
