Kitara 3-1 Soltilo Bright Stars
Maroons 4-2 UPDF
Kitara and Maroons are making sure that any StarTimes Uganda Premier League title contenders stay awake to the pair’s presence.
The duo combined for seven goals on Friday as Kitara dispatched Soltilo Bright Stars 3-1 in Masindi and Maroons saw off UPDF 4-2 at the Prisons Ground in Luzira.
In the top four positions that have changed hands at every blink, only leaders, BUL, have maintained consistency at the summit, with Kitara fairly claiming considerable occupancy in the top three.
Kitara midfielder Paul Mucureezi put up an impressive show, capped by two goals to claim the Pilsner Man of the Match accolade, with Jude Ssemugabi getting the third. Nelson Senkatuuka scored Bright Stars consolation.
This was newcomers, Kirara’s ninth victory in 15 matches. Only BUL have more wins at 10.
The win moved Kitara two places up – including dislodging champions Vipers SC along the way – to second on 29 points, three behind BUL, who have played a game fewer.
Maroons were also not to be left behind, Edward Kabona and Fred Amaku’s first half strikes, plus an own goal from Rogers Adriko after the break and another goal by Abel Eturudde ensuring the hosts’ victory.
Rashid Faridi’s brace, with the two goals coming in the ninth and 65th minutes – only turned out as consolation for UPDF.
Maroons eighth win in 15 matches pushed them two places up to third on 28 points, also pushing Vipers further down on their way. UPDF remain second from bottom on nine points after 15 matches.
