SC Villa 0-1 Kyetume

Cephas Kambugu was the hero for StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) newcomers Kyetume as they edged SC Villa 1-0 in their first top-flight game under floodlights at Namboole on Thursday.

It was quite a rude awakening for 16-time league record champions, Villa, as they started yet another uncertain campaign, with new coach Edward Kaziba looking on as the one-time mighty Jogoos went down.

Kyetume now top the league table on three points after the first match of the opening round, with the next round due Friday across different stadiums.

The Mukono-based side had a better first half, where they made Villa look average and duly took the lead and eventual winner on 21 minutes through Kambugu.

Coached by the experienced George Nsimbe, and bolstered by the equally experienced cast of Patrick Ochan and Vincent Kayizzi in the middle of the park and Robert Ssentongo upfront, the debutants looked so neat on the ball at times.

Villa struggled in the first half, with Ambrose Kirya, Bashir Mutanda and company failing to get a breakthrough past Joel Mutakubwa in Kyetume goal.

The Blues did find composure after the break but Kyetume held on to claim their first win on their maiden go against the big boys.
