Caf Champions League
Return leg, March 17
KCCA (0) v St George (0)
StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo
KCCA will be looking to beating St George of Ethiopia on Saturday to progress to the group stage of the Caf Champions League for the first time since the format was introduced.
A score draw will see KCCA relegated to the Caf Confederation Cup, where they made the group stage last season, while victory of any kind will be just enough for manager Mike Mutebi’s men to proceed in the bigger Champions League.
And one of the men charged with ensuring the Ethiopians do not shake the back of the net, just as was the case in the goalless draw in Addis Ababa last week, is goalkeeper Charles Lukwago.
“We set a goal to win (in Addis Ababa) and not concede,” said Lukwago, “But we settled for a draw. Now we must fight for a win.”
The former Proline, SCVU and Lweza goalkeeper, who has ably fitted into Benjamin Ochan’s shoes, already has nine clean sheets in the league this season.
“Getting playing time is every player’s dream. I want to continue to improve and get better. My coach (Daniel Kiwanuka, goalkeeping coach at KCCA) has urged me to improve on ball distribution because the team has to count on its goalkeeper,” he added.
Lukwago made four crucial saves in Addis Ababa; he will need to stop everything thrown at him on Saturday.
