Youngster Charles Lwanga came off the bench to score twice and not only rescue home side KCCA from defeat, but hand them all three points.
The 13-time national champions edged the UPDF 2-1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium at Lugogo on Friday to remain top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table.
Lwanga came on as a substitute in the 70th minute for Davis Kasirye, netting the equalizer 17 minutes later before sealing victory at the death.
Frank Yiga had given the visitors the lead as early as the fourth minute off an Ivan Ahimbisibwe assist.
But coach Brian Ssenyondo’s UPDF were on the back foot from then on, KCCA probing them until breaching their defences late on.
It is now five victories out of six games for coach Morley Byekwaso’s KCCA, who top standings on 16 points.
Vipers, who beat Mbarara 2-1 at Kakyeka Stadium, remain second on 13 points having played a game fewer than KCCA. The UPDF stay fifth on eight points.
Elsewhere, Wakiso Giants summarily dismissed Tooro United 3-0 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium to move to 12 points in third place.
A Titus Ssematimba brace in the first and 21 minutes plus an extra goal from Ivan Bogere were more than sufficient as the Purple Sharks continued their renaissance after a dreadful start.
In Jinja, Rashid Toha’s own goal handed Gaddafi FC a 1-0 victory over Arua Hill while Busoga United and Soltilo Bright Stars could only play out a goalless draw.
