Lweza 1-1 KCCA
Geoffrey Sserukuma struck 10 minutes from time to earn Lweza a point against KCCA in the 1-1 stalemate played out at Wankulukuku on Tuesday.
Derrick Nsibambi had given the table leaders a 1-0 lead on 62 minutes when he headed home Joseph Ochaya’s cross from the right.
The result, which coincided with Vipers 1-0 away victory at Bright Stars, sees KCCA’s lead at the Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) summit reduced to six points.
KCCA – who had won their last four matches – now top on 48 points, Vipers in second place with 42, URA on 39 and JMC Hippos on 37. The point for Lweza lists them one up to 10th on 31.
Lweza might have rescued a point late but Joseph Mutyaba’s men were by some distance the better team of the two.
Actually they should have taken the lead on 59 minutes when Habib Kavuma brought down Ochaya’s younger brother, Fred Okot, in the forbidden area.
But Emmanuel Kalyowa sent the resultant spot-kick in goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan’s dived direction to leave the Lweza bench holding their heads.
Nsibambi immediately put paid Kalyowa’s half-hearted kick, heading home Ochaya’s cross from the right just after the hour.
But Geoffrey Sserunkuma grabbed a deserved equalizer for Lweza on 80 minutes in a game they dominated and created far more goal-scoring opportunities, including Okot’s first half cross that Ochan fumbled with off the crossbar.
