Jackson Magera will oversee his first match as KCCA interim coach on Thursday following the severing of ties between hitherto head coach, Portuguese Sergio Traguil, and the club on Tuesday evening.
The 13-time national champions take on NEC at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Thursday looking for their first win of the 2023/24 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) season.
KCCA have lost all their four opening matches under Traguil, who was brought in on a two-year-deal during the offseason to take the club to the heights they enjoyed in the second part of the last decade.
“KCCA FC and Head Coach Sergio Daniel Moniz Traguil have today, Tuesday, 24th October 2023 mutually parted ways with immediate effect,” a statement reads on the club website.
Luis Manuel Correira Guerreiro, who has been serving as assistant to Traguil, has also been relieved of his duties.
Traguil replaced Morley Byekwaso on a permanent basis in June this year after the latter resigned from the club three months to the end of last season.
Club legend Jackson Mayanja then oversaw the remaining months on an interim basis before Traguil came in.
Magera, who also served at the club as part of Mike Mutebi’s coaching staff before being hired by Villa, where he spent last season, will now take over on an interim basis. Magera has also been part of Traguil’s backroom team.
“First team coach Jackson Magera Kaddi takes charge of all first team duties as the interim head coach with immediate effect,” confirmed the club.
KCCA are second from bottom on the same zero points as basement side Arua Hill four matches into the season.
In contrast, their opponents on Thursday, league newcomers NEC, are fourth in nine points after winning three out of their first ever four top-flight matches.
