KCCA manager Mike Mutebi admitted the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) defending champions were lucky to pick a point off a spirited Maroons on Tuesday.

The newly-promoted Maroons, coached by Asaph Mwebaze, pegged KCCA to the ropes throughout the game at Star Times Stadium but could not beat an equally defiant Charles Lukwago in goal.

“We played a good, organised side,” conceded the KCCA manager, “They gave us a good test. Our important players didn’t show up.”

Allan Okello and Muzamir Mutyaba were supposed to craft things for KCCA through the middle, but it is the impressive Pius Obuya and Ronald Orombi midfield that run the show.

“We looked average,” added Mutebi, “And didn’t create enough chances. It’s a wake-up call. It’s not a good start but we will be among the five to compete for the league.”

KCCA’s next league encounter is away to UPDF on Saturday.
