Kitara 0-1 Maroons

Fred Amaku scored Maroons winner and Denis Omedi had his penalty for Kitara saved as the latter suffered their first season defeat in Masindi on Wednesday.

The 1-0 victory was Maroons third in six StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) matches and Kitara’s first loss since the Masindi side returned to top flight football this season.

Amaku broke Kitara’s guard on 60 minutes when he received the ball in the middle of the park, beating his man near the 18-yard area before unleashing a low drive beyond Chrispas Kusiima’s right in Kitara’s goal.

The hosts had a chance to level matters on 70 minutes when they won a penalty but striker Omedi saw his kick saved by Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

Kitara’s defeat leaves leaders BUL as the only perfect team after six matches, and Vipers SC and Express as the only other unbeaten sides.

Maroons, who have had some impressive results thus far, move one place up to sixth on 11 points, seven behind leaders, BUL.

Kitara’s brilliant start keeps them in a much healthier state than 14 other teams in the league.

The league newcomers first five straight victories have them second on 15 points, just three behind BUL.
