Maroons 1-0 KCCA

KCCA’s Tshisungu Kankonde missed a penalty as Maroons locked the visitors in on Friday, Fred Amaku’s solitary goal ensuring the prisons side claimed all three points in Luzira.

The 1-0 win lifted Maroons to third place on eight points on the 15-team StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table.

On their part, KCCA – who have now lost two and won as many matches – drop to eighth place on six points.

KCCA came into this clash buoyant following their 1-0 win over reigning champions, Vipers, while Maroons were smarting from a 3-0 defeat to Arua Hill.

But it is the hosts that ended on top here. As expected, KCCA enjoyed a lion’s share of the ball but struggled in front of goal.

The most glaring miss for KCCA came on the half hour after Maroons’ David Ndihabwe handled in the forbidden area.

Congolese striker Kankonde stepped forward to take the resultant penalty but the dreadlocked forward instead had his effort rattle the woodwork to the delight of the home crowd.

Amaku then ensured the punishment was painful at the other end, the tricky striker cutting inside the area, conclusively beating his man before dispatching the ball into the roof of the net on 65 minutes. One-nil to Maroons and the scoreline never changed.
