Vipers SC 4-1 NEC
Livingston Mbabazi kicked off his tenure as Vipers SC coach on a high by thrashing visiting NEC 4-1 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.
The former Arua Hill coach, Mbabazi, replaced the recently sacked Leo Neiva.
A hat-trick by Famador Asiwome and a goal from Yunus Sentamu were enough for the Venoms to move two places up to second on 27 points, five behind leaders BUL.
Cromwell Rwothomio scored the visitors consolation as the StarTimes Uganda Premier League newcomers slumped down to seventh on 21 points after 14 matches.
Sentamu gave Vipers the lead on 23 minutes off an Allan Okello assist before Rwothomio levelled for NEC just after the half hour.
But then there was a man by the name of Famador Asiwome, who was waiting for an opportunity to announce himself to the nation.
And he did so in style, banging in a treble.
Signed in August, the 27-year-old Ghanaian struck his first goal by completing skipper Milton Karisa’s craft on 54 minutes.
He was again on hand to tuck home Abdulkarim Watambala’s assist 10 minutes later before completing his hat-trick off a Bright Anukani ball on 68 minutes.
Vipers next travel to Jinja to face Busoga United on Sunday, just a day after NEC will have faced Arua Hill in Adjumani.
