Wednesday result
Mbarara 1-0 Arua Hill
Henry Kitegenyi was the hero as hosts Mbarara City beat winless Arua Hill 1-0 at Kakyeka Stadium on Wednesday for the Ankole Lions first win of the season.
The victory sees Mbarara dislodge SC Villa from ninth place. The Ankole Lions have six points, while Arua Hill’s fifth successive defeat keeps them rooted at the bottom of the 16-team table with nothing to show.
Mbarara have now won one and drawn three of their opening five matches on their return to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL).
Kitegenyi’s goal, also Mbarara City’s first of the season, was a culmination of a sweeping move that saw Joseph Akandwanaho square the ball back into the path of the former, who easily beat Arua Hill goalkeeper, Richard Anyama, at the near post.
Arua Hill’s season couldn’t have started on a worse note. In their five straight defeats, the Kongolo have scored just one goal and conceded seven.
