KCCA 1-1 Mbarara

KCCA missed a chance to close the gap with SC Villa to within a point after they drew 1-1 with visiting Mbarara at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday.

The defending champions, KCCA, seemed on course to winning it after taking the lead inside the first 10 minutes through Muzamiru Mutyaba’s early penalty.

But Mbarara, faced with the prospects of relegation, fought defiantly to get back into the game.

Pistis Barenge cleared off the line KCCA captain Timothy Awany’s header, while Filbert Obenchan and Julius Poloto all came close for the hosts.

Maqueth Wol eventually out-thought the KCCA defence to beat Charles Lukwago in goal with a low drive for 1-1 on 50 minutes.

Both sides had good chances to win it, and KCCA will feel cheated as Allan Okello’s replacement Jackson Nunda’s header was flagged for offside despite TV replays showing otherwise.

But there was no denying that Mbarara took the challenge head-on and their  determination got them a point.

KCCA are third on 40 points, three behind leaders Villa. Mbarara are two places out of relegation on 23 points.
