UPDF 1-1 Mbarara City
Henry Kitegenyi scored his third goal of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season but it was not enough to earn visitors Mbarara City all three points at Bombo Barracks Ground on Monday.
The Ankole Lions took the lead against UPDF on 50 minutes but a brilliant free kick from Robert Eseru ensured spoils were shared in the 1-1 draw.
The result leaves Mbarara in 11th on 12 points while UPDF stay in the bottom three on nine.
Mbarara, yet to win back-to-back games this season, came into this buoyant from a 2-1 victory over KCCA.
But against a resilient UPDF side, they found an equally desperate-for-points outfit.
Mbarara’s lead was a well constructed move completed by a clinical finish, Sadat Nsubuga’s beautiful through ball finding Kitegenyi and the forward advancing into the box and cleverly slicing it past the oncoming Simon Mabuya in the UPDF goal.
But the hosts never gave up and they hit back seven minutes later through a well-taken Eseru free kick.
