Uganda 1-1 Mali

Farouk Miya ensured Uganda Cranes leaves Gabon with something to show as he struck in the 1-1 draw against Mali in Oyem.

Coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic made three changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Egypt in the previous game with Robert Odongkara, Moses Oloya and William Luwagga Kizito all starting.

On a soggy pitch, both teams hardly expressed themselves but Luwagga nearly put Uganda in front before half time only the water to play its role.

It was a different story in the second half with each team going for goal and it paid off in the 70th minute when the Total Man of the Match, Miya struck beautifully to give Uganda the lead.

But it lasted just three minutes as Yves Bissouma, from over 35 yards saw his free kick fly over the wall and Odongkara just looked on as it hit the back of the net.

There was nothing much to talk about in the remaining 17 minutes as the two teams settled for a stalemate that confirmed Mali, who before kickoff had a chance to qualify for the last eight was also confirmed eliminated.

Uganda finishes last in the group with a single point while Mali are second last with a point more as Egypt and Ghana progress to the quarter finals.
