KCCA 1-0 The Saints
Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) title holders KCCA had Paul Mucureezi to thank as they returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Saints at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday.
The result ensured manager Mike Mutebi’s side maintained their one-point lead at the top on 12, one more than rivals SC Villa, who easily dispatched Proline 3-0.
Attended by close to 1,000 fans at Lugogo, KCCA knew they had to put the 2-1 shock defeat to newcomers Onduparaka last week behind them if they were to stay in control of happenings up top.
But the respite did not come until the half-way mark when Mucureezi put KCCA ahead with his first of the season.
And it was some goal; a rasping drive from 20 yards giving Saints goalkeeper Alex Mugabi no chance. “My target for the season is 10 goals,” vowed Mucureezi.
It could have been more for KCCA had Vincent Kayizzi, who was later replaced by Suleimon Akinyemi, made good use of his earlier two scoring chances.
The third defeat in five matches for coach Moses Basena’s Saints throws them to the red zone of the log with just four points.
