CAF Confederation Cup
URA 2-1 Coffee (Ethiopia)
URA took a first leg advantage in the Caf Confederation Cup as they edged Coffee of Ethiopia 2-1 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday.
Striker Steven Mukwala got himself a brace for Uganda’s representatives while Solomon Tesfay’s solo effort counted for Coffee’s priceless away goal.
URA went ahead on 22 minutes when URA left-winger Derrick Ndahiro weaved in a teasing ball that Viane Ssekajugo headed into Steven Mukwala’s path.
Mukwala then made it 2-0 with eight minutes to half time when he showed composure to beat goalkeeper Abel Gebreyohas for the second time.
Yet it is still the visitors that bossed possession and tempo.
And their reward came on 54 minutes, forward Tesfay picking the ball from the edge of the box and beating two URA defenders before calmly finishing off the move.
The return leg will be held this coming Saturday at the Bahir Dar International Stadium in Sudan, with the winner progressing to the next round.
