SUPL Friday result
Vipers SC 0-1 SC Villa
Bashir Mutanda struck the decisive bullet as SC Villa brought Vipers SC back to earth in the 1-0 victory at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.
The striker, back from a long term injury, scored on the 52nd minute to earn Villa their first victory of 2020 and hand Vipers their maiden defeat in the year.
Vipers had won their first two second matches of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) while Villa had lost both theirs.
This victory, Villa’s eighth in 18 matches, moves them up two places to third on 30 points, 12 behind the leaders and their day’s victims and eight adrift of second-placed KCCA.
Both sides exercised caution in the opening half but Villa, who are fast making this ‘their’ home having thrashed Vipers here on their last visit, got the opening when Mutanda headed home Derrick Ndahiro’s well weighted cross seven minutes after the break.
Vipers forwards Fahad Bayo, Paul Mucureezi and Allan Kayiwa barely threatened Villa while substitutes Dan Sserunkuma and Denis Mwemezi took forever to get into the groove. The league continues on Saturday.
