Gaddafi 2-1 Mbarara City
Maroons 0-1 NEC
Mbarara City coach Wasswa Bbosa made a losing return to his former club, Gaddafi, as the hosts beat the Ankole Lions 2-1 on Saturday.
Benson Muhindo and Joshua Kaka scored Gaddafi’s goals while Joseph Akandwanaho got Mbarara’s consolation in this StarTimes Uganda Premier League match played at Gaddafi Arena.
Gaddafi’s third win in seven matches moves them four places up to eighth on nine points, while Mbarara’s second defeat has them three places below on seven.
This was also the army men’s first home win this season.
Gaddafi, whom Bbosa coached for two seasons before moving to Mbarara this campaign, went ahead on 42 minutes through Muhindo.
Akandwanaho leveled matters for the guests two minutes later off a Pius Kaggwa pass to force a one-all half time score.
But Kaka grabbed the winner, taking full advantage of Steven Munguchi’s pass, three minutes after the break to ensure Gaddafi took all three points.
In Luzira, NEC showed no fear for the prison warders as the league newcomers beat hosts Maroons 1-0.
Allan Mugalu’s 55th minute goal is all that mattered as Maroons remained winless at home.
NEC’s fifth win in seven matches sees them leapfrog defending champions Vipers, who lost to KCCA a day earlier, into third place on 15 points, just three off the top.
Maroons second defeat in seven matches has them sixth on 11 points.
