Mbarara City 0-1 NEC
NEC began their new life in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League by winning their first ever top-flight match when they beat Mbarara City 1-0 on Friday.
Dhata Joseph Stephen, who was later named Pilsner Man of the Match, will have his name etched in the club’s history as the first man to score the club’s first goal in the league.
NEC are playing top-flight football for the first time after being promoted from the Fufa Big League.
Actually, the match played at Kakyeka Stadium was a battle between two newly promoted clubs. Mbarara have been here before.
The game’s big moment came on 51 minutes when Dhata finished off Rashid Okocha’s assist.
NEC join fellow newcomers Kitara FC and title contenders BUL at the top of the table on three points apiece after the first round of matches.
Matchday two continues on Sunday with four games lined up.
