Collated Saturday results
Busoga 2-1 Police
Bright Stars 0-1 Kyetume
Maroons 0-0 SC Villa
URA 0-0 Mbarara City
Nine-man Busoga United and Kyetume were some of the day’s biggest winners as match round eight of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) continued on Saturday.
Police were the latest victims of a resilient Busoga, falling 2-1 to the Eastern Region side at the Mighty Arena in Jinja.
Boban Zirintusa and Julius Junior Debo netted for the hosts while Andrew Samson Kigozi got Police’s consolation.
Zirintusa opened the scoring on four minutes but Kigozi levelled matters for Police 16 minutes later.
Busoga then got a scare when defender Isma Kawawulo received marching orders after a second yellow card on the stroke of half time.
But the 10 men held off any Police efforts and instead retook the lead on 54 minutes through Debo.
There was still time for another red card as Umaru Mukobe was also sent off for Busoga 10 minutes from time after a second bookable offence. But the hosts held on for all three points.
Victory for Busoga moved the Jinja side two places up to fifth on 13 points, six behind leaders Bul. Police stayed second from bottom with just two points from eight games.
Kyetume also pulled off a mighty result away to Bright Stars at Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku, beating Bright Stars 1-0 with Sharif Saaka grabbing the goal.
Kyetume’s third victory on seven matches to 10 points in ninth position on the 16-team league while Bright Stars continue their early struggles in third from the bottom on five points.
Elsewhere, Mbarara City and URA played out a goalless stalemate at Namboole, same as Maroons and SC Villa in Luzira.
