URA 2-1 Express

Home side URA came from behind to beat Express 2-1 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League match played at Mehta Stadium in Lugazi on Friday.

A Moses Aliro second half penalty and Pilsner Man of the Match Laban Tibita’s winner in the 85th minute ensured David Obua picked his first victory as URA head coach since assuming the role early last month. Isaac Wagoina scored Express’ gifted consolation.

The former Uganda Cranes superstar, Obua, saw his side draw 2-2 with Kitara in his opening match as URA coach.

That was followed by a 2-0 defeat to league champions Vipers before the Tax Collectors finally came top against Express on Friday.

URA’s only third win in nine matches lifts them two places up to sixth on 13 points, while Express slipped to eighth and a point fewer following their second defeat in eight games.

At Mehta, though, it was Express that threatened to record their fourth win of the season, the Red Eagles going ahead on 27 minutes through a Wagoina goal after goalkeeper Denis Otim fumbled with a tame back pass.

But URA probed and probed, eventually getting their moment when they won a penalty, which Aliro dispatched to level matters on 71 minutes.

Tibita later ensured all three points went to URA when the impressive playmaker scored the winner with five minutes left to play.
