Matchday 28

Relegation battle results

Blacks Power 3-2 Gaddafi

Maroons 1-0 Onduparaka

Arua Hill 1-4 Busoga United

Onduparaka Football Club were on Tuesday officially relegated from the StarTimes Premier League after they lost 1-0 to Maroons at the Prisons Ground, Luzira.

With only 16 points from 26 matches, the Caterpillars cannot mathematically save themselves in their remaining two games.

It is a sad ending in top flight football for a side that were promoted with aplomb some seven years ago.

Onduparaka will rue their fans’ crowd trouble from the previous season that led to the club being deducted two points and as many goals, which penalties applied at the start of this campaign.

Additionally, they were forced to play five of their home matches several hundreds of kilometres away from their Arua home. These matches were played in Bombo.

And again, it was Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale who stood out to deny Onduparaka and claim the Pilsner Man of the match accolade.

Winger Darius Ojok did the business for Maroons the other end, netting on 20 minutes for all three points.

This was Maroons 10th win in 26 matches and keeps them on course to ending the season in the top four. They are fourth on 40 points.

Still in the relegation battle, Busoga United and Blacks Power were involved in some thrillers to just keep the fight going.

Busoga surprisingly thrashed Arua Hill 4-1 at Barifa Stadium, a venue most visitors hate to visit.

Bashamu Mugwa grabbed a hat-trick for the Jinja side and Laban Tibita got the other goal as Busoga moved to 27 points and two places above relegation.

That saw UPDF drop one place and point below Busoga after the former lost 2-0 to Villa in Bombo.

Rashid Toha scored Arua Hill’s consolation in their 10th defeat of the season but the Kongolo’s general impressive play in their debut topflight football campaign ensures they are safe in fifth place on 38 points.

Blacks Power also edged Gaddafi 3-2 in a five goal thriller to just live another day.

Second from bottom on 23 points, Blacks Power still have a chance to turn things around in their remaining three games.
