Onduparaka vs KCCA, 4pm
Green Light stadium, Arua
Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) newcomers, Onduparaka, have picked only two points from a possible nine in their three opening matches of topflight football.
They will hope to record their first ever victory in Uganda’s elite league when they welcome defending champions KCCA to their ferocious Green Light Stadium in Arua in Friday’s lone fixture.
Onduparaka come into this encounter buoyed by their 1-1 draw with six-time league champions, Express, at Wankulukuku on Tuesday.
They will have sent a clear message to big boys like KCCA that they are not pushovers.
The Caterpillars captain, Shaban Muhammad, says they may not be favourites going into the clash with KCCA but can cause an upset.
“Our plan at the start of the league was to win all our home games if we are to avoid relegation,” said the striker.
“This is one of the games we have to win to maintain our season-long objectives.”
His coach, Leo Adraa, says they will not change much from the approach they employed at Express.
“We know KCCA likes to pass the ball and control possession but we know how to stop them and beat them to their game,” he said.
KCCA manager Mike Mutebi and his team arrived in Arua on Wednesday and have been camped at Rose Villa Hotel.
“We are facing a resilient side backed by a sizeable crowd,” admitted Byekwaso of the enormous effort they will need to summon here, “We are going to employ a cautious game plan.”
Onduparaka will look to the likes of Muhammad, Ivan Mbowa, Wahab Gaddafi, Ibrahim Faizal, Ceaser Olega, and Rashid Agau for inspiration.
KCCA are still without the services of injured Jackson Nunda, Tom Masiko, Caeser Okhuti, Hassan wasswa Dazo and Isaac Muleme.
