Onduparaka 2-1 KCCA
Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) newcomers Onduparaka stunned defending champions KCCA on Tuesday edging them 2-1 at Green Light Stadium in Arua.
A Mohammed Shaban second half brace ensured the northern Uganda side registered their first ever top flight victory, condemning KCCA to their maiden defeat in four matches.
The win sees the now fifth-placed Onduparaka move to five points, two behind SC Villa, who could go top with victory over Lweza on Saturday.
Defeat for manager Mike Mutebi’s KCCA has left them indeed looking to Lweza, and perhaps Bul away to Vipesr, for a favour if they are to maintain their table leadership. They have nine points.
Onduparaka took the lead when Shaban beat an offside trap to go one-on-one with KCCA goalkeeper Benjamin Ocean, who was no match for the striker’s polished finishing shortly after recess.
His second, coming on the hour, was even better, Shaban looping the kCCA defence to watch his ball bounce into an empty net.
KCCA’s Mutebi had to do something. He introduced Sulaimon Akinyemi for the tired Mutyaba after the hour and the Nigerian was worth the money, pulling one back on 68 minutes. But the hosts held on for their historic victory.
