Uganda captain Denis Onyango wants everyone to throw their weight behind new Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre.

The Mamelodi Sundowns and Africa’s number one goalkeeper met with upl.co.ug in Johannesburg and underlined the importance of supporting the new coach.

“As senior players,” said Onyango, “We will obviously support the coach and try and help the young players to do the right thing.

“Of course it’s not easy to adapt easily from one coach to another but we will do our best to try and get the results.”

Desabre succeeded Micho Sredojevic, who quit for South Africa’s Orlando Pirates, last August.

Onyango added: “As time goes on we shall see how it goes, and try and get the team back to the Nations Cup, hopefully in Cameroon next year, and do much better (than Uganda did in Gabon).”

Desabre also views Onyango as the pillar of the team.

“Denis is very important to the team, he can show the good way,” Desabre was quoted in the Daily Monitor this week, “He is into the project. He can help the team.”
