Painful end to the Road for the Hippos

  • Cameroon 1-0 Uganda (Agg: 1-1 Uganda lose 5-4 on penalties)

The Uganda Hippos road to the 2018 Afcon U20 finals ended painfully after defeat to Cameroon in a penalty shootout on Friday.

Following a goalless first half in Yaoundé, Nkeng Tadeus scored from the penalty spot in the 67th minute to win it 1-0 for the hosts thus tying the game at 1-1 on aggregate.

Uganda had won the first leg 1-0 at StarTimes stadium, Lugogo a week ago thanks to Steven Mukwala winner.

The Vipers forward had chances in Cameroon but failed to convert with one of them hitting the side net after beating the custodian.

In the penalty shootout, Cameroon scored all their first attempts while Uganda Hippos missed one through right back Paul Willa who had two games over two legs.

Mustafa Kizza, Allan Okello, Geoffrey Wasswa and Julius Poloto all converted for the Hippos.

Cameroon will face the winner between Mali and Tanzania in the third round.
