Police 2-1 URA
Police stayed top of the Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) table after coming from behind to beat URA 2-1 at Mandela National Stadium on Saturday.
Henry Kisekka gave URA a 17th minute lead to URA when he headed in a Brian Majwega cross after goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo failed to handle a easy cross.
But Police, who are flying high after flirting with relegation last season, answered back through their marksman Hood Kaweesa four minutes before the break.
The striker tapped home at the far post after URA goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi parried a fierce Juma Balinya strike into his path.
Coach Abdallah Mubiru’s men were hardly at their best on the day.
But they still managed a second when Kaweesa dashed onto a Shakur Makeera through pass to float the ball past Alionzi for a 2-0 lead.
The goal was Kaweesa’s sixth of the season, making him the leading scorer.
Kaweesa also won the Fortebet Man of the Match award.
The win moved Police to 20 points from 11 matches, a point and a game more than KCCA and SC Villa.
Defeat for URA left them ninth and seven points off the pace after a fourth loss for under-fire coach Ibrahim Kirya.
