Five Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) sides shift attention to the Uganda Cup this Sunday at various venues.
At Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku; Lweza host neighbours Entebbe in one of the three quarter-finals on the day.
Last season’s semi-finalists will be favourites heading into this but assistant coach Hamza Kalanzi is wary of the Fufa Big League sides.
“We can’t take them for granted just because they are in a lower division,” he told upl.co.ug.
“The approach must be the same as against top tier sides if we are to avoid a Cup upset,” he added.
Talking of upsets, Hope Doves assistant coach Ian Mutenda, whose side play away to Vipers at Kitende, has warned his opponents. “Of course we are underdogs but we can cause an upset,” he stated.
Vipers are fresh from eliminating Airtel Kitara 4-1 and will rely on the goal scoring prowess of Erisa Ssekisambu, who leads the club’s goal scoring charts with 15 goals in all competitions.
Elsewhere, KCCA travel to Matugga to face Bright Stars a side they edged 2-1 less than three weeks ago at the same venue.
Joseph Ochaya, scorer of all the goals in the game, will again be key for the Kasasiro Boyswho, who also have Hassan Wasswa Dazo and Muzamiru Mutyaba back after a series of injuries.
At Nakivubo Stadium, defending champions SC Villa play Fufa Big League side Onduparanka but that’s at the round of 32.
The Jogoos’ fixtures have delayed due to Caf engagements and the winner of the tie will play Busia at the round of 16 with Soana lurking in the quarter-finals.
