Police players celebrate a pre-season goal

There will be renewal of acquaintances when former league champions Police host Proline in the only league game on Friday at Namboole stadium.

First, Police coach Abdallah Mubiru coached the Wandegeya based side in arguably their most successful period in 2012 before he was shockingly relieved of his duties.

Then players Gift Ali and Denis Bigala have joined the 2005 league champions from Proline in the window while former KCCA skipper Sakka Mpiima who spent half of last season at Police is now on the opposing side.

However, the hosts will focus mainly at the league summit as they have a chance to go top with victory.

Coach Abdallah Mubiru whose side drew 1-1 with SC Villa last weekend is optimistic the boys will do better and pick all the desired points.

“The boys are calm,” he told upl.co.ug. “But fully aware of the task ahead against a bogey side with a good coach and quality players,” he added.

However, defender Savio Kabugo who returns to the side after a failed trial stint in South Africa says Mujib Kasule’s side are hungrier.

“We respect the opponents but we need to start winning games. It will be tough but we expect to come out on top.

The visitors, losers against new league entrants in their last game will rely on the exciting Sula Matovu and Ibrahim Semujju for pace upfront and have striker Daniel Isiagi and midfielder Joseph Mandela back in the team.

Police will hope strikers Norman Ogik and Hood Kaweesa don their scoring boots but midfielders Yasin Mugume, Albert Mugisa and Juma Balinya must be at their best.
