- Rwanda 0-0 Uganda
Uganda Cranes fired blanks in their first game of the 2020 CHAN competition drawing goalless with the Amavubi of Rwanda.
The fixture that pitted Johnathan McKinstry against his former bosses saw the Cranes start well with Joachim Ojera and Milton Karisa coming close to scoring the opener inside the first quarter of the game.
Karisa suffered an injury moments later and was replaced by leading UPL goal scorer Brian Aheebwa who had an attempt blocked for a corner.
Charles Lukwago was called on to deny Muhadijiri Hakizimana before the end of the first half and the Rwanda attacker was unlucky again as he hit the cross bar from a shot just outside the area.
Jacques Tuyisenge also had a headed attempt hit the post in a game the Amavubi looked slightly above the Cranes in terms of creating chances.
Tonny Mawejje and Ben Ocen appeared to change the tide in the second half for Cranes but there no winner at the final whistle.
Uganda’s next game is on Friday against debutants Togo while Rwanda will face defending champions Morocco.
