SC Villa edge Mbarara

Wednesday result

SC Villa 2-1 Mbarara

Tuesday result

Express 2-0 Paidha

Sports Club Villa triumphed over visiting Mbarara City 2-1 in a Uganda Premier League match played under floodlights on Wednesday night.

A goal in each half by Albert Mugisa and Ronald Magwali was enough to end SC Villa’s three-match losing run in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL).

Mugisa broke the deadlock with a calm finish on 33 minutes following a howler by Mbarara goalkeeper Ali Kimera.

Mbarara returned from the break with more intent, the Ankole Lions equalising in the second minute of the second half, debutant Jude Ssemugabi with the goal.

But with 16 minutes left on the clock, Kimera committed yet another school-boy error in goal that Magwali capitalized on to give Villa all three points.

SC Villa’s only sixth win in 25 matches sees them displace Maroons from 12th place on 26 points while Mbarara remain fourth on 41.

Elsewhere, George Ssimwogerere got his first home win as Express coach earlier on Tuesday as the Red Eagles beat bottom side Paidha Black Angels 2-0.

Tony Odur and Michael Birungi scored the goals as the Red Eagles moved two places to ninth position with 32 points after 25 games.

But it was a laboured performance against a team that played with 10 men for almost an hour.

Tony Odur scored the opener on 65 minutes from the penalty spot after Disan Galilwango was fouled.

Michael Birungi then added the second three minutes from time with a fierce drive after cutting in from the left.

In Jinja, Joel Madondo scored his 13th goal of the season to set Kirinya-Jinja on the way to a 2-1 win over Bright Stars.
