SC Villa end KCCA unbeaten run

Collated Tuesday results

SC Villa 2-1 KCCA

Onduparaka 1-1 Wakiso Giants

Nicholas Kabonge and Ronald Ssekiganda were on target as SC Villa ended KCCA’s perfect start to the season on Tuesday.

The 13-time champions came into this StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) clash at Bombo Barracks Stadium on a three-match winning streak.

But the 16-time record league champions, Villa, would not allow that to continue as they beat their city rivals 2-1.

Victory keeps Villa in fifth place on seven points after four games, while KCCA – whose consolation came from Brian Aheebwa – stay second on nine.

The guests fell behind after defender Samuel Kato headed out out the 18-yard box a long dangerous ball, only for it to fall on Kabonge’s feet.

Kabonge then drilled in the ball to beat a stranded Charles Lukwago in KCCA’s goal for a 33rd minute 1-0 lead.

Villa doubled their advantage late on in the game, second half substitute Benson Muhindo the orchestrator.

The midfielder latched onto a pass down the left before cutting inside.

Muhindo’s lifted ball in was half cleared by Denis Iguma and the on-coming Ssekiganda stole in to make it 2-0 four minutes from time.

KCCA for a lifeline when Moses Kiggundu bundled down Aheebwa for the referee to point to the spot.

Aheebwa picked himself up to send Villa goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige the wrong way but Villa held on for their second win in four matches.

Elsewhere, Kabon Livin and Hassan Wasswa respectively scored in the 1-1 draw between Onduparaka and Wakiso Giants in Arua.
