Ambrose Kirya and George Senkaaba scored for SC Villa in the last quarter of the game to edge Hope Doves 2-0 at Masaka Recreation Ground.
The Jogoos went into the game on the back of scary history after going out at the same stage last season.
Kirya, a second half substitute converted from the spot after a foul in the area before Senkaaba sealed the victory.
At Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku, Mbarara City survived an early exit after they needed a penalty shootout to edge Regional side, Lungujja Galaxy.
The hosts blew a 2-nil lead as Ibrahim Kirya’s side had come to stage a late show to draw 2-all in normal time.
In the shootout, Mbarara City won 3-1 to avoid joining top tier sides Maroons, URA and Kirinya SS that suffered defeats to lower division sides.
