CAF Champions League

KCCA (Uganda) 1-0 St George (Ethiopia)

*KCCA Qualify for group stages 1-0 on aggregate*

KCCA are the first Ugandan side to qualify for the group stage of the lucrative Caf Champions League after defeating St George of Ethiopia 1-0 at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday. The first end had ended goalless.

Muhammad Shaban scored the game’s only goal with a glancing header past countrymate Robert Odongkara shortly after the half time break.

KCCA, the first club to make this level since the group stage format was introduced in the 90s, will now earn a minimum $550,000 for making the grade.

After an end-to-end first half, KCCA returned from the break with resolve, taking the lead from an early set piece.

Shaban used his wit and timing to power home a glancing header off a teasing ball by Mustapha Kizza, who swung it in after a quickly taken corner by the impressive Muzamiru Mutyaba.

KCCA are now assured of six group matches against some of the best sides on the continent, something that will give them priceless experience .
