Soana 2-1 URA

Hamis Kitagenda struck a double as Soana edged URA 2-1 in Kavumba on Saturday to leave the tax collectors hopes of winning their first national league title in five years hanging by a thread.

The result has coach Kefa Kisala’s men trailing leaders KCCA, who saw off JMC Hippos 2-0 on the same day, by 12 points.

With five matches left for URA and six for KCCA in the Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL), it is growing increasingly difficult for the taxmen to win their fifth title.

But those are URA woes. Coach Charles Ayekoh’s Soana are hardly complaining. The Kavumba-based side are having a decent campaign by their standards and have produced some impressive displays since a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Saints over a month ago.

The victory over URA, their 10th in 25 matches, has them in a comfortable in fifth, a point fewer than the tax collectors.

Wagaluka started their journey to victory as early as the fifth minute. The hosts were running away before the hour, Wagaluka adding his and Soana’s second on 23 minutes.

Nicholas Kagaba pulled one back for URA 10 minutes after recess but Soana held on for all three points.
