URA 0-1 Vipers
UPDF 0-0 Onduparaka
It took Erisa Ssekisambu’s penalty to separate the two sides as Vipers avenged a first round defeat by beating URA 1-0 at Namboole on Wednesday.
URA travelled to St Mary’s Katende and punished the hosts 2-1 in the first round, then under coach Ibrahim Kirya, but current coach Paul Nkata could not stop Vipers this time round.
The victory sees Vipers keep leaders SC Villa within sight.
Coach Miguel da Costa’s Venoms now go second on 39 points, four behind Villa and three ahead of KCCA.
Villa have, however, played one match more than Vipers and three more than KCCA.
Defeat for URA, their second on the trot and ninth overall, sees the tax collectors drop one to ninth on 26 points.
Vipers went ahead when a URA player was adjudged to have pulled down Milton Karisa in the penalty area.
A penalty was awarded by the centre referee and Ssekisambu stepped forward to send URA goalkeeper Alionzi Nafian the wrong way.
The visitors held on to claim only their fifth victory in 26 attempts against URA.
Elsewhere, UPDF stay a place out of relegation while Onduparaka remain sixth on 21 and 30 points respectively following a goalless draw in Bombo.
