Soltilo Bright Stars 1-0 Vipers SC

Gaddafi 0-0 Maroons

It is increasingly looking like no one wants to win the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title.

For the umpteenth time, SC Villa remain top of the league table after a team below them has had a chance to dethrone them but failed.

KCCA have had several chances in recent weeks to go top but have chocked on the opportunity.

Vipers SC were the latest to have the chance to beat Soltilo Bright Stars on Tuesday and go top.

But even the defending champions froze on the occasion, just days after beating KCCA 1-0.

The Venoms instead fell by the same scoreline at Kavumba Recreation Ground, Peter Loki Emmanuel’s 62nd goal handing Bright Stars maximum points.

However, it took more than Loki’s goal to down coach Alex Isabirye’s Vipers.

Bright Stars goalkeeper Hassan Matovu had to put up a Pilsner Man of the Match performance to deny the Venoms getting anything from the match.

As a result, Vipers – whose games in hand have now reduced to one – remain second on the log level on 45 points with KCCA, one fewer than Villa.

Vipers and KCCA now have four games to end the season while Villa have three left to play.

On their part, coach Asaph Mwebaze’s Bright Stars ninth win of the season moves them two up to seventh on 35 points, with three games to go.

Elsewhere, Gaddafi and Maroons played out a goalless draw in the day’s other game
