Vipers 0-1 Bul

Vipers SC’s title defence hopes suffered a serious dent on Friday when they fell 1-0 to Bul in an Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) match played in Buikwe.

Yunus Sibira scored the all-important goal at the death to keep Vipers in second place, trailing leaders KCCA by six points.

Coach George Nsimbe’s Vipers had reduced the lead on Mike Mutebi’s KCCA to just six points with an edgy 1-0 victory over Bright Stars on Tuesday.

They could have cut it further to three points with victory at home to Bul to put pressure more on KCCA ahead of the 10-time champions’ visit to Jinja to face off with JMC Hippos on Saturday. But Friday was not the day for that.

KCCA stay top on 48 points and Vipers second on 42 each having played 23 games apiece.

Bul came into this fixture high on inspiration after ending their home jinx against Express a week ago.

They were stimulated to put to an end the bad run to Vipers in Buikwe as well, a side they had lost to three of their four away fixtures and drawing the other.

They were headed for another share of spoils here, but not with Sibira on the pitch, the Bul match winner pouncing late to continue their decent run in the campaign. The result sees eight-placed Bul move to 35 points.
