Tanzania frustrate Uganda Cranes at Namboole

  • Uganda 0-0 Tanzania

Uganda Cranes dropped their first points in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after a frustrating draw with rivals Tanzania at Namboole.

The hosts created a plethora of goal scoring opportunities in a dominant first half but were lethargic.

Tanzania based Emmanuel Okwi and winger Joseph Ochaya were culprits for misses inside the first half.

Okwi failed to beat club teammate Aishi Manula when put through on goal by a ball over the top from Denis Onyango.

Ochaya then got arguably the best chance of the game towards the end of the first half when he beat the offside trap to meet a well weighed pass from Man of the Match Moses Waiswa.

Miya also came close to putting Uganda in the lead but his shot was blocked by Aggrey Morris for a corner which the visitors well defended.

After the break, the visitors took control of proceedings and should have won it but Onyango did well to deny Mbwana Ally Samatta when through on goal.

At the other end, Okwi sent his effort over the bar from close range while Miya was glaringly denied by Aishi Manula in Taifa Stars goal.

Not even the introduction of Luwagga Kizito, Edirisa Lubega and Patrick Kaddu could change anything as the two teams shared spoils.

Uganda remains top of group L standings with 4 points, two more than second placed Tanzania while Lesotho and Cape Verde follow
